English Courses

English 7

Students will study a variety of units including daily language practice, spelling/vocabulary, punctuation, grammar and usage, parts of speech, paragraph writing, journaling, poetry, short stories, drama and the novel.  Writing activities accompany all units throughout the year.  Students will be required to prepare 4 book reports during the year.  Students will also deliver 2 oral presentations to the class—an oral book report and an informative/favorite vacation speech.

English 8

This is a continuation of English 7 at the next level of study.  Students will study a variety of units including daily language practice, spelling/vocabulary, punctuation, grammar and usage, parts of speech, paragraph writing, journaling, poetry, short stories, drama and the novel. Writing activities accompany all units throughout the year.   Students will be required to prepare 4 book reports during the year.  Students will also deliver 2 oral presentations to the class—an oral book report and an informative/Bible character speech.

English 9

This is a continuation of English 8 at the next level of study.  Students will study a variety of units including daily language practice, spelling/vocabulary, punctuation, grammar and usage, parts of speech, paragraph writing, journaling, poetry, short stories, drama and the novel. Writing activities accompany all units throughout the year.   Students will be required to prepare 4 book reports during the year.  Students will also deliver 2 oral presentations to the class—an oral book report and an informative/topical speech.

English 10

This is a continuation of English 9 at the next level of study.  Students will study a variety of units including daily language practice, spelling/vocabulary, punctuation, grammar and usage, parts of speech, paragraph writing, journaling, poetry, short stories, drama and the novel. Writing activities accompany all units throughout the year.   Students will be required to prepare 4 book reports during the year.  Students will also deliver 2 oral presentations to the class—an oral book report and a demonstration speech.

English 11

Students will learn to prepare a research paper according to standard manuscript form, be involved in a continuous vocabulary improvement program, and learn to write and edit with a clear grasp of the intricacies of capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure.  Students will also have opportunity to study several great American novels of the 19th century.

English 12

Students will learn to write in the English language for a variety of purposes and situations, demonstrate vocabulary growth and solid understanding of the principles of English grammar and usage, and interpret and evaluate a variety of literary works.
